MARY JO WALTER

January 6, 1916  -  March 25, 2008

Mary Jo Walter, devoted mother and grandmother, left this earth peacefully in Santa Clarita, California.  She was born in Madison, Nebraska, where she spent her formative years.  Her parents were Anna and “Prof” J. J. Malone.  She graduated with a teaching credential from Wayne State Teacher’s College and went on to teach first through eighth grades in a one room schoolhouse.

She married the love of her life, Ferdinand Walter, in 1937.  They made the move to California in December of 1941 where they enjoyed raising their eight children in Sunland-Tujunga.  She was active in the Sunland Women’s Club and spent many years as the president of the Mothers’ Club at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School.

Mary Jo moved to Santa Clarita twenty years ago to be closer to her daughters.  Her beloved husband, Ferd Walter and her daughter, Jean, preceded her in death.  Mary is survived by her children, which she proclaimed to be her greatest accomplishment in life:  Ann Henry (Pat), Janet Weidner (John), Fritz Walter (Joanna), Larry Walter (Trish), Kathy Sweigart (Paul), Mary Jo Jordan (Fred), Michael Stafford-Walter (Kate), Patty Bloomfield (Jim) along with 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
